“ZIGGY STARDUST” – CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE 5^TH KIND

We’re into building bridges, musically and personally

KALM KAOZ and its label, MASSIVE DECKS, announce the release of “ZIGGY STARDUST” from their upcoming EP entitled, K-HOLE.“ZIGGY STARDUST”, KALM KAOZ’s remake of David Bowie’s epic track of the same name originally released in 1972. “ZIGGY STARDUST” is a follow-up to KALM KAOZ’s highly regarded “GET HAPPY” remake of the renowned Judy Garland swing-time track. KALM KAOZ’s vision is to build bridges, from old school rock ‘n roll and myriad influences to today’s dance music community. The music video was recorded in the California desert and will be released soon.

Johann of BPM Magazine South Africa was one of the first persons to hear the track and he immediately took to Twitter, tweeting: “@KalmKaoz have send me a secret private @SoundCloud treat - a Ziggy Stardust instrumental they've been working on... loving it."

KALM KAOZ continues its effort to bring more complexity and texture to the electro house genre. They are a juxtaposition to today’s continued simplification of production and music within the genre. The “ZIGGY STARDUST” remake is an epic adventure. The track breaks boundaries and is expansive, bringing layers of detail throughout the track. From unique synthesizer sounds, Brazilian vocal-chops woven into the driving tapestry of the percussions, to the track’s amalgamation of sounds, including deep house and tech house, KALM KAOZ’s “ZIGGY STARDUST” is potent.

KALM KAOZ hopes to highlight Bowie’s vision. The original “ZIGGY STARDUST” track was part of the album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” released by Mr. Bowie, representing a grand theatrical presentation. As with KALM KAOZ and it’s “MAYHEM TWINZ”, Ziggy Stardust represented Bowie’s alter-ego, a rock star who acts as a messenger for extraterrestrial beings. Ziggy is the human manifestation of an alien being who is attempting to present humanity with a message of hope. Ziggy Stardust represents the definitive rock star, but with a message, ultimately, of peace and love.

Hearing the preview of KALM KAOZ’s “ZIGGY STARDUST”, MTV VJ and highly regarded rock ‘n roll historian, Mr. Matt Pinfield, said “KALM KAOZ fuses the power of dance music with the timeless classic Bowie track to bring it to a new level. The KALM KAOZ track introduces a whole new generation to the alchemy of Ziggy, just as Bowie did when he introduced the rock world to electronic and dance with “Low and Young Americans”. “ZIGGY STARDUST” is being released after KALM KAOZ arrived back from a month in Europe, throwing its first-ever “ELECTRIK KOOL-AID” party in Ibiza with the Pacha Group during Ibiza’s closing season. The closing season party was followed by SlingR’s appearance on the AMSTERDAM DANCE EVENT’s radio panel, along with Armin van Buuren, discussing the future of music and and technology.

Callejeros Danceros: Rock in Rio Madrid 2012

Aunque no con el cartel que nos hubiera gustado ver de entrada, Callejeros Danceros repite experiencia en el festival Rock in Rio de Madrid después de haber acudido en el 2010.

Este año sí que se nota la veteranía del festival en cuanto a la organización de las entradas y las salidas, respecto pasadas ediciones, resultando mucho menos caóticas.

Este año nos apuntamos al día del rock con las bandas californianas Incubus y Red Hot Chili Peppers, y poniendo el cierre a esta noche, sesión del psicodélico deejay canadiense Deadmau5.

A pesar de que el rock no es nuestro fuerte, no les negamos ni el talento ni la buena actuación que hicieron ambas bandas, en especial los Red Hot Chili Peppers, que consiguieron meterse al público en el bolsillo interpretando sus míticos temas "Californication", "Give it away", "Can't stop" o "By the way" entre otros, y con detalles como el guiño del batería Chad Smith que se vistió con la camiseta de la selección española de fútbol. Ya sabéis, donde fueres...

Incubus no es mucho más ajeno, pero también actuaron con gran maestría durante todo el concierto, eso tampoco se lo negamos.

En cuanto al deejay Deadmau5 que era el que nos interesaba ver en directo, lo cierto es que nos dejó un sabor agridulce en las dos horas de sesión que ofreció. En este tiempo pudimos asistir a una sesión de su particular progressive house con un par de toques de minimal trance bastante fugaces.


La primera parte, que coincidió con toda la primera hora, pasó casi sin brillantez salvo con un par de temas destacables, como el elegido para abrir la sesión "What the fuck" de Fatboy Slim. En esta parte Deadmau5 estuvo pinchando la mayor parte del tiempo con su particular y representativa cabeza de ratón puesta sobre la cabeza. Tuvimos que esperar hasta la recta final para asistir a sus mejores sonidos haciéndonos botar alguna vez, cuando el deejay nos sumergió en su mundo peculiar de electrónica, con los que nos adentraba en un videojuego donde el hombre se confunde con el ratón y viceversa. El tema elegido para finalizar la noche fue su último sencillo "The veldt", que actualmente está incluído en nuestra lista oficial. Otro títulos que sonaron fueron "Some chords" o "Strobe" en formatos extendidos.

Un momento destacable de su sesión fue hacia la mitad de la misma, cuando durante un par de temas subió una cantante al escenario para interpretarlos en directo. Momento que Deadmau5 aprovechó para bajar de la cabina e interactuar con ella y el público, pues la verdad es que hasta ese momento el deejay apenas había levantado la vista de los platos.


Lo que sí cabe destacar es el fantástico espectáculo de luz que despliega el músico en sus actuaciones, por medio de unos cubos en los que se proyectan imágenes bastante elaboradas, psicodélicas, con mucho colorido y un protagonista en concreto: su peculiar ratón como superhéroe de máquinas recreativas de los años ochenta.
